Why I Share the Journey, Not Just the Finished Product

When most people see a finished 3D printed collectible, they see the end result.

A completed statue.

A finished helmet.

A polished display piece that's ready to sit proudly on a shelf.

What they don't always see is everything that happened before that moment.

At 3D Printed Gaming Forge, I think the journey is just as important as the destination.

Every Project Has a Story

Take my latest Nemesis-inspired resin statue as an example.

If I'd only shared the finished piece, you would have seen a completed model and moved on.

Instead, I shared the project as it evolved.

You saw the resin print.

You saw the preparation.

You watched the painting begin.

You saw the finer details being added.

Finally, you saw the completed reveal.

Each stage tells part of the story.

That's what makes the finished result even more satisfying.

There's More to It Than Pressing Print

One of the biggest misconceptions about 3D printing is that you simply press a button and the work is done.

In reality, the print is often only the beginning.

Depending on the project, there can be hours of:

• Cleaning

• Support removal

• Sanding

• Filling imperfections

• Priming

• Painting

• Weathering

• Final assembly

Each step plays a role in transforming raw materials into something worthy of displaying.

It's these finishing touches that make every project feel unique.

Why I Show the Process

I could post only finished products.

It would certainly be easier.

But I don't think it would be nearly as interesting.

Sharing the process gives you a look behind the scenes of the workshop.

You'll see the successes, but you'll also see the occasional print failure, the unexpected challenges and the lessons learned along the way.

Those moments are part of making things by hand.

They're real.

They're honest.

And they make the finished piece feel earned.

There's always another project printing.

Another statue waiting for paint.

Another prop ready for assembly.
